The volume examines how states, institutions and legislation have been conceptualised and studied in various historiographical contexts. The authors look at how Europeans organise their public life and have organised it in the past, and how views of history have influenced and been used in shaping it.
The volume, edited by James S. Amelang and Siegfried Beer, is published by the Thematic Work Group on “States, Legislation, Institutions”, operating as part of Cliohres.net, a Network of Excellence supported by the European Commission through the Sixth Framework Programme of the Directorate General for Research.
