What do we publish?
Edizioni Plus, the publishing house of the University of Pisa,
was set up in order to enhance and promote studies and research
performed by university professors who wish to achieve recognition
and distinguished critical appraisal of their cultural and scientific
projects through a University Press.
On the model of the best Anglo-American University Presses, Edizioni
Plus's publishing activity focuses above all on handbooks, conference
proceedings, essays and periodicals.
Therefore, books published by Plus must embody the work of a University
professor or, if proposed by a researcher, a doctoral student or
an expert on the subject, must be accompanied by a reference from
a University Professor, who will vouch for the quality of the scholarship.
Except for handbooks and proceedings which enjoy University patronage,
proposals will be examined by the Scientific Committee of Edizioni
Plus, whose members will, after due consideration of various elements
(scientific validity, market potential), express their judgment
and, if appropriate, their agreement on publication of the work.
To submit an proposal to Edizioni Plus, please fill in the form,
downloadable from the Plus site, and send it via e-mail to: segreteria.edizioniplus@adm.unipi.it,
observing the following guidelines.
What to write in the proposal?
The proposal must be filled in carefully, in order to define
and explain in detail to the Scientific Committee the subject and
aim of the publication.
In the proposal presentation, attention should be paid to the following
points:
- The reason for the choice of subject
- Issues to be addressed
- How the work differs from others dealing with the same subject
- An indication of the target audience to whom the book would
be of interest (it is a specialist publication, it is useful to
students, it also has market potential among readers who do not
have in-depth knowledge of the subject, etc.)
In the form to be presented to Edizioni Plus, there must also be:
- A brief description of the book
- Biographical notes on the author/s (max. 3 lines)
- Table of contents (for ex. temporary index)
- If it is a handbook, an indication of the academic course in
which it will be adopted
- If it represents the Proceedings of a Conference, an indication
of the patronizing Authority
- An estimate of the probable number of pages
- The quantity of illustrations (if expected)
- A likely date for delivery of the material
- Possible problems arising during execution of the work
Who examines the proposals?
Publication proposals submitted to Edizioni Plus are examined
by an internal Scientific Committee, structured as follows:
- Prof. Aldo Pinchera, President of Edizioni Plus
- Dr Roberto Favale, Vicepresidente Edizioni Plus
- Dr. Patrizia Alma Pacini, Executive Director of Edizioni Plus
- Prof. Giuseppe Di Stefano, Councillor
- Prof. Francesco Ciardelli, Councillor
- Prof. Franco Russo, Councillor
- Prof. Alessandro Pizzorusso, Councillor
The Scientific Committee reserves the right to
ask an author for further details concerning the proposal or to
request the forwarding of the first written chapters for a more
precise assessment of the work.
The Scientific Committee has the power to consult external sources,
whenever an expert's opinion on the subject treated is considered
appropriate.
In addition, the proposal will be examined by marketing and production
staff, who will assess the economic and marketing aspects of the
work.
